Writing this update from Ottawa and it’s the last one you’ll be reading from here in quite some time. Who knows how long really but as you know, I don’t like being cold so I can’t see a return before May when the weather starts acting civil again. The above photo is from a fishing trip in Montreal which got out of hand in a hurry. I met some friends at the train station, went fishing then started what became a most egregious evening in downtown Montreal. It was like a flashback to SE Asia in late 2009, indeed.
I’ll leave it up to your imagination but know that another friend of mine had drove from Ottawa for the festivities. The next morning when I awoke on a friends couch, the friend from Ottawa had one of those “I need to get out of here, immediately” feelings, a sentiment I most certainly agreed with. Part of the decision was influenced by the fact that while I was on the train from Quebec City to Montreal, I noticed that VIA Rail lets you change your tickets free of charge. As of now I have a train ticket from Montreal to Ottawa scheduled for May 26th, 2017, indeed. Flying into Montreal opposed to Ottawa is cheaper 9.4323/10 times, fyi.
Enough of that though, I’m off to Anchorage where I’ll hopefully fit in a game of golf and most certainly go on a long drive into the wilderness with a fishing rod, tackle, full tank of gas and of course a camera. I’m flying to Alaska to take part in the Adventure and a world traveling reader / prolific commenter named “SJH” who I may or may not have met on Little Corn Island on New Years has sent me some suggestions… I’d of met up with him but he’s going deep into Alaska and it’s simply too far for a day drive to meet up for some most epic fishing.
I will note that after being in Ottawa for nearly 3 weeks, I’m getting used to the comforts of a critter caught in a routine. It’s nice, it’s a good routine and I can see how days turn into weeks which multiply into months and finally cap off years. One must make moves if they wish to see the world and one must be very uncomfortable at times should they ever wish to find themselves eating fresh mangoes on the other side of the planet with new friends that feel like they’ve been hanging out forever.
I’m flying out at 5:30pm aka a most civilized hour which could also be called an “afternoon flight delight”, late flights are fantastic.
Who knows what the future holds but I’m looking forward to finding out…
