Easy Like a Sunday Morning

This Sunday morning was easy like failing an exam if you never went to class or bothered to study. Woke up and took a ride to town with my friend’s wife. Got out and bought a tone of veg at the market, I mean boat loads. Took a dala dala, very crowded to super market and bought some chicken and what not. Crazy how at first, I was apprehensive of a busy dala dala, now it doesn’t phase me at all.

If you’re doing local transport, just be yourself and don’t flash wealth, it’s that simple. Even if you did, nothing would probably happen if it’s during the day, day and night is day and night, yes? Suffice to say, let’s get to the point of this…

Login to and notice I’m tagged in some photos from Zanzibar, sweet. Talk with one of the ladies, they both got Malaria. Tested in Dar Es Salaam, negative. One of the girls later that day vomited on the floor in a super market, something has to be up…

In Uganda they get tested, both positive. I ask the lady what her symptoms were, “stomach cramps” that’s it. I said no way, she said “yes, that’s it!!”. Her friend had a bad fever but her just cramps. I told her I’ve had cramps last few days, really bad. She said go get checked…

It’s POURING out and decide “whatever, let’s go”. Wasn’t even sure if hospital would be open but it has to be, right? Pay a dala dala, man they are slow, see a moto guy, jump out and get on the back. The cold rain penetrates my long sleeve shirt as a sharp breeze gives me the chills, to the hospital we go.

On the ride I start thinking… Do I have malaria? This morning on way to town, I had 2 long sleeve shirts on and was cold, the lady had a pair of workout shorts and top and opened windows saying it’s warm… Maybe it’s because I’ve been on the coast so long? We’re in the mountains now!?

Arrive and get tested for malaria, the waiting game. While we’re here, both girls were on doxycycline anti-malaria pills just like myself… Waiting…

The results!? Hooray!!

To be continued…
