I’m writing this with a smile on my face thinking of the most wonderful week that I was just lucky enough to have in . Many people know that South Africa produces some incredible wines but fewer know about Stellenbosch and how it’s a beautiful place to visit with lots to do besides indulge in said wines. That said, to visit Stellenbosch and not sample as much of the splendid local wines as possible would be a real shame.

Something I really liked about being based in Stellenbosch was that it was very close to Cape Town so international accessibility was easy and close to so many other beautiful areas besides the big city. It’s nice to be close yet still away from the hustle and bustle to properly slow down, enjoy a glass of wine and smell the flowers.

The is a peaceful place in the heart of Stellenbosch. It’s the perfect place to unwind and relax feeling miles away from it all without leaving town.
The Dutch Cape Architecture which is prominent throughout Stellenbosch is inspiring to say the least. It’s a reminder of a time when people put lots of care and attention to detail in the buildings in which they resided. There are plenty of wonderful colonial homes in Stellenbosch.
The course at designed by the legendary Gary Player is immaculate and situated on a picturesque estate a short drive away in Somerset West.
A wine safari at is the perfect blend of safari and wine tasting. You’ll learn about the area and of course, the wines.
Mushroom foraging at is a wonderful way to get to know the estate and the people behind the wine before a meal, tasting or both.
The beef above literally melted in my mouth; the evening spent at was one to remember; the atmosphere, the food and the wine are not to be missed.
The guided bike tour with gave us a brief history of Stellenbosch and showed us places we’d normally never see. Also, there are some incredible trails surrounding town enticing the adventure and fitness enthusiast into mountain biking or running.
Naturally, taking a helicopter tour over Stellenbosch will change your perspective of the place. The town is surrounded by mountains and a nature lover’s dream. We took this tour with from the .
Chocolate and wine, two things which most people wouldn’t refuse; combine the two and it’s simply divine. The Chocolate and Wine Tasting at won’t disappoint.

I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to experience what I did on this trip. The wines, the people, the scenery, all of it was wonderful and it was in Autumn which I recommend. The weather was near perfect 90% of the time and without the volume of peak season, we were given a special level of attention which naturally, was most appreciated.
